The Scholars Hub
What is the Scholars Hub?
The Scholars Hub serves as the developing intellectual engine of the Center for Muslim Experience in the United States (CME-US). It situates the Center as a site for academic research, dialogue, and network building focused on Muslim American histories, experiences, and public life. The Hub brings together faculty, students, and visiting scholars to generate research that informs teaching, public understanding, and community engagement.
The work of the Scholars Hub is organized around three interconnected commitments:
Sustaining a growing research repository
Supporting a national and international network of scholars engaged in Muslim American Studies
Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students as emerging scholars and public intellectuals.
As an initiative currently under active development, the Scholars Hub builds on existing CME-US projects while expanding the infrastructure needed for sustained research, mentorship, and public engagement.
Projects currently supported through the Scholars Hub include:
Research, Teaching, and Scholarly Exchange
CME-US already supports multiple scholarly initiatives that anchor the work of the Hub. These include research and teaching projects such as Muslim American Studies, which brings interdisciplinary scholarship into the classroom, and the Guide to Muslim America, a public-facing resource that translates academic research into accessible educational tools. Faculty and affiliates associated with CME-US contribute original research, curricular development, and public scholarship that strengthens the field of Muslim American Studies.
The Hub also supports recognition of scholarly excellence through initiatives such as the CME-US Biennial Book Award, which highlights outstanding contributions to the study of Muslim American life and thought.
Archives, Oral Histories, and the Repository
A central function of the Scholars Hub is its close relationship with the Global Muslim Digital Repository. Scholars, fellows, and students contribute directly to the growth of archival collections, oral histories, and curated research materials that document Muslim American experiences across time and place. Projects such as the Guide to Muslim America reflect this commitment to preserving intellectual, cultural, and community histories while creating resources for future research and public engagement.
Students affiliated with CME-US participate in digitization, oral history collection, survey research, and media documentation, gaining hands-on research and professional skills while contributing to the permanent scholarly record.
A Connected Scholarly Ecosystem
The Scholars Hub is also designed to operate in close coordination with the Public Commons, ensuring that research generated through academic work is translated into publicly accessible formats, including digital exhibits, pedagogical resources, lectures, and media projects. This integration allows scholarship produced within the Hub to inform broader conversations and strengthen connections between universities, communities, and the public.
Together, these efforts position the Scholars Hub as a sustained site of research, mentorship, and knowledge production, supporting rigorous scholarship while shaping how Muslim American histories and experiences are studied, taught, and shared.
